Tom McCartin shouldered a mountain of responsibility as the youngest player in the AFL in his first season at the Swans in 2018. Sam Reid’s injury-riddled campaign opened the door for the big-framed Geelong Falcons product to play 15 senior games, slotting in at centre half-forward and providing a second tall option inside 50 alongside Lance Franklin. McCartin’s ability to not only launch for marks but get the ball to ground for Sydney’s crumbing small forwards, earned coach John Longmire’s praise on a number of occasions. The youngster is now looking to reap the rewards of being thrown into the deep end in 2019.
