GIANTS Academy member James Peatling has been awarded the Round 7 NEAFL Rising Star nomination following a terrific performance against Southport on Sunday.
Peatling was named among the GIANTS’ best as they ended the Sharks’ undefeated run with a 48-point victory at GIANTS Stadium.
Accumulating 24 disposals and five marks, Peatling has continued his good form in 2019 after being selected in the Allies squad following a successful NAB League campaign.
It is the second NEAFL Rising Star nomination in as many seasons for the 18-year-old, who debuted at NEAFL level back in 2017 when he was just 16.
A creative player who reads the game well, Peatling played his junior football at Parramatta Lions, Westbrook and Pennant Hills and has come along in leaps and bounds in the past few years.
The western Sydney product averaged 22 disposals and 4.5 clearances for the GIANTS in this year’s NAB League, and has averaged 17 disposals (50 per cent contested) and three clearances in his three NEAFL games in 2019.
The NEAFL Rising Star is awarded to the most promising young talent in the NEAFL competition.
Nominees must be under the age of 21 and played less than 20 senior games (excluding games as AFL club academy players) at the start of the 2019 season.
