Former Lions rookie Blake Grewar will make his return to Redland in a huge boost to the Bombers for the 2020 NEAFL season.
The 2016 Dowling medallist has spent the past two seasons with Richmond in the VFL competition, but the lure of reuniting with former teammate, and now senior coach, Phil Carse, was an opportunity Grewar didn’t want to pass on.
“I can’t wait to get back,” Grewar told the club’s website.
“I know a lot of the boys who are still there. I grew up with a lot of them and I’m close to them.
“I’m really excited to be coming back – I can’t wait.”
The 26-year-old spent his junior days with Redland and played 82 senior matches before being drafted by Brisbane after his outstanding 2016 NEAFL campaign.
After one season on the Lions’ list, Grewar relocated to Melbourne to join the Tigers.
Grewar, who was one of the competion’s best midfielders a few years ago, returns to the club in desperate need of a boost following a ninth-placed finish in 2019.
Redland coach Phil Carse said the club was “over the moon” having Gewar back in the system.
“He is a great example of the pathway that the Redland Football Club provides, progressing from our club’s juniors of AFL ranks and now comes back as a better player ready to help us to take the next step at NEAFL level,” he said.
Grewar played 101 NEAFL games for Redland and Brisbane from 2012-2017, and was named in the NEAFL Team of the Year twice.
